We're putting on show, and we need you! Before the GLHS auditorium is torn down and a new generation of GLHS theater moves to the new high school, we're putting on one last production: 42nd Street! We've got a talented production team, but we need the GLHS alumni to make the show happen on and off stage. So come and BE those dancing feet... and crew, and cast, and tech, and makeup and-- heck, we need you all!
Auditions will be held in April 11 & 12, 2025. Performances will be July 25, 26 & 27.
The idea to produce an alumni musical began in the summer of 2023 when two old (er) friends/colleagues got together for lunch and talked about how they wanted to work on a musical with each other again. As the conversation leaned into discussion about the new high school under construction (and ultimately about the demolition of the current GLHS auditorium), it became apparent that whatever the chosen musical was going to be, it should rightfully take place in the current space. It just made sense to do one last show in the venue that has been “home” to so many of us. So here we are.
We would like to thank, in a very BIG way, Dr. Tracey Deagle, GJPS Superintendent, for believing in and supporting this undertaking and the Gahanna Jefferson Education Foundation who generously made the decision to partner with us on this project.
ALL proceeds collected from this musical will go back to the GJEF in order to fund scholarships and provide grants for current GLHS students and teachers. There will also be a donation made to G.R.I.N. (Gahanna Residents In Need) as well.
We cannot express how excited we are to create in our space one last time. Please consider joining in the memory-making as we bridge Gahanna’s past and future in the Broadway classic, 42nd Street.
About “42nd Street”
At the height of the Great Depression, aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown PA, and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star? Based on the 1932 novel by Bradford Ropes and the subsequent 1933 Hollywood film adaptation, this backstage musical follows the rehearsal process of a Broadway show staged during the height of the Great Depression.
